But it’s tried and true for a reason – its a warming tale for anyone who’s ever felt that way, who’s felt that some special aspect of themselves wasn’t really appreciated, and of course the second-hand triumph when the character is ultimately recognized and finds their place.
Taking place seven years after the events of Dragonflightthe book opens with Menollyyoungest daughter of Masterfisher Yanus, Sea Holder of Half-Circle Seahold, [e] in the fictional world of Pern. Or the idea that the world might fall all over itself to take care of one lone girl in ttilogy time of need and give her a kind home and the recognition she deserves. Menolly is also a character in Dragondrums, but the book’s protagonist is a young boy named Peimur, and it is not quite as fun a read as the first two books.

Harper Hall of Pern 3 books. A familiar formula, right? Dragonsong is the first book in the Harper Hall trilogy and the first Dragonriders of Pern book that I’ve read. The first two books are about an unloved girl finding her place in the world.
But after having read so many PNR books lately which can be very explicitit was nice to read something a bit lighter, but with much of the fantasy I like to escape in. Menolly is a great character, and her adventures are timeless and instantly engaging.
